Question #5:

No Motivation...WHY??? ?

I am not sure what it is going to take for me but I have no motivation to eat rite or exercise. I hate my weight. It has caused me depression and causes me not to love myself. I always say that I am going to start on Monday and then when Monday comes I do good for Monday and then Tuesday I am back to my old ways. I always feel really light headed and weak the first week that I try to eat less. Is that normal? I have done weight watchers, atkins, south beach, acupuncture and even my own diets and I do good for a while and then fall off the diet. I have even lately thought about weight loss surgery but I am terrified. I am a very pretty girl and I am only 4'10 so the weight makes me look very large. I am not bad built or anything but I want to loose 50 or more lbs. BUT I have no MOTIVATION! I say what I am going to do and I never do! Any advice? Be nice or don't say nothing!

Question #6:

Is acupuncture effective in neck burns?

Those suffering from neck problems sometimes experience a burning sensation localized to one spot near or on the neck. Have any of you who experience this pain, found any relief by inserting needles into the neck or adjacent area?

At its most intense, the sensation feels no different than a cigarette burn on the skin.
The cause of the pain is possibly correctable by surgery though surgeons are not eager to operate in this region of the anatomy unless absolutely necessary.

Question #7:

Why would a horse do this?

I was riding a horse today named Little Man and his saddle fits and everything(it was just custom fitted to him) however he does have some back issues. He has had acupuncture for it and he enjoys stretching so i know his back is stiff but he isn't mine so i cant do much to help that but today on turns(not circles but just turns) he wont bend he just spins and i ask him to bend but he wont. and he ISN'T dead to my leg, i know that for sure, but he also doesn't like to circle either so i normally resort to using my reins to get him to turn off the rain as my legs and seat he just ignores.. why would he not like to
a:) bend (and just do spinney steps)
b:) move off the rail in general

im sure pain is a factor i just cant "see" how that would effect his turns...and im interested to see what you all say
:]
thankss
its not that im not asking correctly...i am he just isnt responding :]

Question #9:

Pain managment- what works for you?

I already asked you all about Spinal Fusion, what my doctor is recommending, but I am going to wait as long as possible based on the answers I got. Since 1993 I have dealt with my back pain. I have done it all- Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Massage Therapy, Physical Therapy, Tens unit, Nerve Ablasion (for Facet Joint pain). I just had my annual MRI and my Spinal Surgeon(one of the best, Dr. James Reynolds of Seton Spine Center in Daly City CA) and he said he had bad news. It was worse than thought- now 4 bad disks, one bulging and impenjing on my nerve, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, and spondlyosis.

About 3 years ago, I decided on my own to rid myself of the Class 1 & 2 opiates such as the Duragesic Patch and Oxycotin. Plus, a miriad of anti depressants and sleep aids. I figured out that Dr.s have an obligation to write out pain prescriptions if you are complaining about pain that is interfering with ones life and during a moment of clarity, realized I was inducing myself into a state of mental impairment along with my physical. So I spent a year detoxing myself off the meds and decided that I would do whatever I could to stay on only the Norco and Ibuprofen and a TENS unit at all costs. Even if it meant not leaving the house. I am trying to be proactive in my own pain managment.

So here is the question. How much Norco is considered reasonable and safe? I cannot walk even an hour and I am in pain 24/7. The Norco I am taking is 1 pill 6x per day. The Norco is 325 ml of Aceteminophen. Unfortunately, my medication tolerance is raised so after being on THIS prescription for 5 months, and Norco for about 18 months total. I need to do something. Is asking my doctor for 8 per day an okay thing? I know he will give it to me, but I want to know if any other person in the med field or someone who takes this much can tell me what they think. Also, I take 800 ml of Ibuprofen 3 times per day.

I see my doctor tomorrow but I don't want him to just give it to me without doing a bit of my own research. I hope you can appreciate my fear after being on so many opiates for so long and the very long year it took to get me off.
Sorry, Norco 10/325- didn't know there were different strengths? Are there?

Question #15:

Acupunture and infertility, can you help? Any info?

I going to a certified acupuncturist soon (hopefully this week) and I am wondering what to expect or what are your thoughts. I am going specifically for fertility benefits.

A little background info- Hubby and I have been trying for a baby for 2.5 years now. We are seeing an RE (specialist) and are on a little break as our next step in InVitro Fertilization (IVF) in the spring. We were technically diagnosed with unexplained infertility in March 2008. No real issues with either of us other than the fact it is not happening. We have tried a lot of things up until this time. Everything from trying not to try to charting to ovulation prediction kits to Clomid to ovulation induction through daily injections of Gonal F, etc.

So we thought acupuncture is worth a shot during our downtime. Our RE really recommends it to all his patients and especially those faced with IVF.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

(I am just waiting on the receptionist at the office to call me back with my appointment.)

Question #17:

spinal fusion- work or no?

Before I receive a lot of answerrs recommending diet and exercise, please note that I injured my back in 1993 and have already done everything. I take the Omega 3 Fish Oils, Glucosamine, Multi's, etc. Drink lots of water and am in my 3rd go round of Physical Therapy to keep my muscle tone. Already did chiropractor, decompression, massage therapy and even acupuncture and nerve ablasion 5 times. I am not a condidate for disk replacement because I have facet joint probs.

My Dr. wants to fuse lower 4 from tailbone up.

I really need to know if you had fusion and what you feel about it. Or if you know someone and what they feel about it. I am in pain now 24/7 and can only walk for 1 hour tops and that is after I take a pain pill. It sucks! I used to be so energetic but the last 4 months I have gone down hill. I don't want to up my meds from the current vicodin (norco) and ibuprofen because I have been there and done that and it took me a year to get off (after I found out how horrible they are for you and my doctor told me that if I had surgery while on them; such as emergency surgery if the bad disc actually ruptures, he would be unable to control my pain).

What say all of you? Work or no?

Please add what you are doing for pain management-- I take Norco and Ibuprofen. Do you do anything, non opiate, that seems to help? Other than what I have already mentioned?

Question #18:

Question #20:

:I REALLY want to go to Oriental Mecdical/Acupuncture school. What can I do now to prepare? Advice needed!?

Hey!!

I just joined the group! I really want to go to Oriental/Acupuncture Medical School. I am currently attending college At East Tennessee State University (ETSU) and I am a double major of Biology and History with a Minor in Mandarin Chinese. I just graduated High school last May in the top 10 of my class and now a "sophomore" at ETSU with really good grades and in several honors programs. I really want to help people and after all I have been through with the Medical World (It's a long story. I went over a year w/o a diagnosis, saw over 17+ doctors in my area, and went to the Pediatric Rheumatology Dept. at Duke Medical Hospital in Durham, NC. And was diagnosed with severe Raynaud's Phenomenon and something that is a really rare and misunderstood amplified pain illness called Reflex Nero-Vascular Dystrophy (also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). I still have issues walk and in a lot of pain but at one point, I could hardly walk and almost bedridden. I have been going to Acupuncture and have much progress. I want to go to Western Medical school since I was a little girl and after I went to Duke and seen an Acupuncturist, I have concluded that I want to go to Oriental Medical school. Do any of you all have advice or "Words of Wisdom"? I have been looking up several colleges and thought about the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) in Huston, TX. As one of my options. I have not completely narrowed it down but I really need some direction.

Thank you everyone for your support on this matter. I hope to hear from you all soon!!
Skep Doc 20,

I litterally saw over 17 doctors in variuos fieds of medicine not just Rheumatology. and they knew ablsolutely nothing. I had Raynaud's that affects my entire body @ times and I lose the abilirty to walk. I fell and sprained an anckle wasn't a problem, then 1yr later when on a school fieldtrip and had a 15hr Raynaud's attack and could not walk! QUIT BEIG NARROW MINDED!! HARVARD IS EVEN COMMIING OUT AND SAYING ACUPUNCTURE WORKS! NOT JUST PLACEBO!!!!! Thank you for your opion for you are intitled.
I want to go into Acupuncture/Herbology. Also some massage therapy.
When in Acupuncture treatments, needels get inserted and they relase endorphins. They releive pain, even Western Med says the SAME THING. As well as for CANCER PATIENTS. WESTERN MED DOESN"T KNOW EVERYTHING!!!! YOU NEED to realize that.
Skep doc,

It was a western Doc who diagnosed me, yes, but they FAILED TO TREAT ME! I was almost bedridden and Acupuncture gave me my life back. Acupuncture TREATED me. Acupuncture has worked the best by far to TREAT any of my symptoms. No, I'm not going to take you by the hand and show you the enternet. I do a profusion of reading and the Mayo has even came out and said Acupuncture helps EVEN with Cancer. PLZ lets not make a fuss, for that is childish. NO YOU ARE NOT GERGORY HOUSE FROM House M.D.!
Also I would like to add that Acupuncture and TCM focuses on treating the body as a "whole" rather than in parts. Western Med doesn't do that. They only treat for instance, a headache rather than the whole person And with the meds they give you, it forces other bodly functions out of balance. Meds Western docs give change body Chemisrty, not body Energy. Oriental Med focus on altering the body "qi" so that whatever is out of balance, (ie Homostasis, Equaliberium whatever trem you want to use, )is balanced not altering body chemicals in the process which is why there are "side effects" with some of the Meds Docs give us.
